How To Link Aadhar With Your PAN Card

The Indian Tax Department has made it mandatory for all citizens to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their Aadhaar card by March 31, 2023, under the Income Tax Act, 1961. Failure to do so would result in rendering the unlinked PAN inoperative from April 01, 2023. Taxpayers can check the status of the Aadhaar-PAN card link on the Income Tax e-filing portal or through an SMS service. The department has provided links on its website for taxpayers to check whether their PAN card is linked to their Aadhaar card or not.

Here are the steps to check the Aadhaar-PAN card link online:

  • Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal and click on "Quick Links" on the homepage
  • Select "Aadhaar Status" and enter the PAN and Aadhaar numbers
  • A pop-up message will appear that confirms whether the two cards are linked or not
  • If they are not linked, a message will ask you to link your Aadhaar with your PAN by clicking on 'Link Aadhaar'
  • If the Aadhaar-PAN linking request is in progress, the message will ask you to check the status later

Alternatively, taxpayers can check the Aadhaar-PAN card link status by logging in to the Income Tax portal and visiting the "Dashboard" on the homepage, or by selecting the "Link Aadhaar Status" option under "My Profile".

Taxpayers can also check the Aadhaar-PAN card link status through SMS service by sending a message to 567678 or 56161.

If there is a mismatch in details such as name, phone number, or date of birth, taxpayers can update the details in either of the databases such that they match.
